8/26/07 Prayers of the People Gracious and ever loving God, we thank you that you have worked in our minds, our hearts, and our decisions to bring us here today, to be together in the communion within your very being. We praise you and worship you, in Christ Jesus. Lord, you see your young children growing up in an uncertain and confusing world. Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as an opportunity for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you and to find and keep alive their most real joy that is in your life with them. By your will, O God, we seek to go out into the world with your good news that we may participate with you in revealing your undying love in people lives. As many schools start tomorrow, we pray for the young people who are the students and for the teachers and administrators, that all may grow in your truth. We pray for women and men who minister for you in Grace Presbytery. May Rev. Hood be strengthened by your spirit and supported by our prayers and concerns for her in all that she gives for your church. Merciful God, you bear the pain of the world. Look with compassion on those who are sick, on those who are in sorrow, on those wrestling with anxiety. Hear us as we pray silently in our hearts and audibly with one another for those in our worries… We pray that those who govern and maintain peace in every land may exercise their powers in obedience to your commands; that you will strengthen this nation to pursue just priorities so that the races may be reconciled; the young educated; the old cared for; the hungry filled; and the homeless housed. Lord, lead us, as your congregation to discern your call to us in new ministries. Accept our prayers and strengthen us to do you will; through Jesus Christ. Amen. |
