Prayers of the People

It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you our thanks and praise, O Lord our God, creator and ruler of the universe.  Hosanna! Save, I pray!

In your wisdom, you made all things and sustain them by power.  You made us in your image, setting us in your world to love and serve you and to live in peace with your whole creation.  From generation to generation you have guided us, sending prophets to turn us from wayward paths into the way of righteousness.  Out of your great love for the world you sent your only Son among us to redeem us and to be the way to eternal life.

You loved this world, in that you have reconciled us to you in Jesus Christ.  Our prayer is that through the Holy Spirit you will give us the faith which sees that our true eternal life is not in the circumstance of our lives here and now, but our being adopted into your divine family, in the love that you and Jesus Christ have through the Holy Spirit.  Open the eyes of our hearts to You as our divine parent and Christ as our brother in your Holy Spirit.

Lead all the nations of this world, ours included, in the ways of justice and goodwill.  Direct those who govern, that they may rule fairly, maintain order, uphold those in need, and defend oppressed people; that this world may claim your rule and know true peace.

Give grace to all who proclaim the gospel through Word and Sacrament and deeds of mercy, that by their teaching and example they may reveal your love for all people.

Comfort and relieve, O Lord, all who are in trouble…sorrow…poverty…sickness…grief…especially those known to us, whom we name before you in silence….  Help them in body, mind, or circumstance, working in them, by your grace, wonders beyond all they may dream or hope.

Eternal God, you create us by your power and redeem us by your love.  Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit that we may give ourselves in love and service to one another and to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
