Prayers of the People

Almighty God, in Jesus Christ you taught us to pray, and to offer our petitions to you in his name.  Guide us by your Holy Spirit that our prayers for others my serve your will and show steadfast love; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

O Lord God, you are great, holy, and exalted above us and above all humankind.  And now you show favor by not forgetting us or deserting us, and in spite of all the mistakes we make in our own opinions about things, you continually show us your love.  You have given us your dear Son, Jesus Christ, nothing less than your own self and all that is yours.  We thank you for the truth that you come into us and even change the very desires of our hearts.

We bring before you now all that troubles us: our failings, mistakes, and worldly desires, our tribulations and sorrows, and also self centeredness—our whole life and our whole heart, which you know better than we know ourselves.  We place all this in the faithful hands which you have stretched out to us in our Savior.  Take us as we are and bless us with what you know we need.

Eternal Ruler, hope of all the earth, give vision to those who serve the United Nations, and to those who govern all countries; that with goodwill and justice, they may take down barriers, and draw together one new world of peace in Jesus Christ.

Look with compassion on those who are sick (especially on ...) cheer them by your Word, and bring healing as a sign of your grace.

As your church, lead us to grow lovingly as disciples of Jesus Christ, participating in His love with you by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Revive us.  Make us new in your life.  Fill us with gifts of the Spirit that we may share in your ministry in our community.  Open us to change.

Mighty God, whose Word we trust, whose Spirit enables us to pray: Accept our requests and further those which all bring about your purpose for the earth; through Jesus Christ, who rules over all things.

Amen.
